🌟 Reflecting on an incredible week last week 🌟In Person vs. Virtual? That is the question......Last week, I had the privilege of attending the Rullion Senior Leadership and Executive Teams for a series of meetings in Altricham.We worked hard during the day, but we also ate very well in the evenings at some very fine restaurants! If anyone needs tips on eating well in 'Alty', I am fast becoming an expert :)The week cumulated in our company-wide conference on Friday. What an amazing experience it was to have everyone together in one room, celebrating our successes and kicking off our new strategic go-to-market plan by James Saoulli.In the evening we ate, drank (some of us more than others), talked and danced the night away. A good time was had by all!In a world of virtual meetings, the power of face-to-face contact cannot be underestimated. I realised, not for the first time that there's something truly special about being able to connect with colleagues, both old and new, and to feel the energy and excitement buzzing throughout the room.Organising such an event is no small feat, but the impact it has on our team's morale and camaraderie is immeasurable.Big shout out to our Business Support team Nicola Moran. Karon Cascoe Port (she/her) and Tracy Leigh-Chapman. I don't know how you guys do it, also loved the photo booth!It's moments like these that remind me why I feel so at home here at Rullion.Our people are truly awesome, and coming together to celebrate our achievements in person is a testament to the strength of our team.So, for me there is no question. Now that football season is over, along with the suffering of my fellow Pats fans and our attention turns to baseball with Spring Training up the street in Ft Myers, this might be the smartest thing the Red Sox have done this off season.Manager Alex Cora invited Boston Pops conductor Keith Lockhart to speak to the Red Sox! Yup, you read that right. In a recent local interview Cora was quoted as saying: “We invited him to come over, talk about leadership, how we can get a group together of different talents, different levels to make it work. What they do in his job, in his domain, is amazing. You’ve got to be on point on everything. He just had a great talk with the players. It was very eye-opening the way they go about their business, the way they make everything work. And it was a good morning for all of us.”And Lockhart had this to say: “When you deal with the Boston Symphony or the Boston Pops you’re dealing with a group of, within their field, elite athletes. The same kind of people who have spent five to six hours a day since they were five or six years old perfecting a craft, that brings with it the challenges of building a team out of people who, up until this level, the team was built around them. Because everybody here was the star in high school or college and in Triple-A, and all of a sudden there are a bunch of stars, so how do you get people focused on a common goal and mutually supportive?”As someone who's spent the majority of his professional career selling sports and now music, I found this collaboration nothing short of brilliant. My takeaway from this is EVERYONE has got to check their egos at the door or diamond, commit to the team, mesh and respect diverse personalities and play nice together at the very best of their abilities for any team to succeed. Every. Single. Day. And these leaders insights naturally apply to the business world as well. Obviously we Boston sports team fans are a tough lot to please. We expect excellence and championships. 20 Years of watching the GOAT's leadership has spoiled us. Never mind the recent past successes of the Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins. And I think taking a look at how one of the premier musical conductors in the world leads his "team" to perform at their highest level individually as well as a team is a genius move by these people managers. Wonder if the Pats owner has taken "note" of the Boston Pops leaders message with a new rookie coach? And no veteran QB to lead? Time will tell.Meanwhile, who's ready to hear Play Ball?
