Jean Johnson

Mrs. Jean Turner Johnson, age 72, of Moreland, passed away, Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at her home. Born June 21, 1944 in Haralson, Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Howard and Ruby Howard Turner. She was a lifelong resident of Coweta County and retired from the Coweta County School System after 28 years as secretary at Atkinson Elementary School. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Murphy Johnson of Moreland; sons and daughters in-law, Lee and Tiffany Johnson and their children, Hunter Johnson and Brent Johnson of Luthersville, and Matthew and Roslyn Johnson and their children Lilah Johnson, Maddy Estep, and Kourtney Johnson and her fiancé, Michael and their son, Colten Clarke; brother and sister in-law, Mike and Deanna Turner of Barnesville; and a sister in-law, Sylvia Johnson of Ellijay. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Rita Turner Emmitt and her brother, Doug Turner.

Barbara Tucker

Mrs. Barbara Ann Tucker, age 76, of Grantville, passed away, Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born March 8, 1940 in Meriwether County, Mrs. Tucker was the daughter of the late Ossie and Grace Ferrell Wright. She and her husband opened their first store in 1973 and established Big M Grocery in Grantville in 1975. Through the years, they owned and operated a number of other businesses in Grantville and have always been involved in the business and civic interests of the City. Mrs. Tucker attended Springhill Baptist Church and will always be remembered as a hard worker who loved her sons and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband Billy Tucker of Grantville; sons and daughters in-law, Tony and Ann Tucker of Newnan, Chris and Elaine Tucker and Scott and Cindy Tucker, all of Hogansville; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Marlon Tucker; and her brothers, Jimmy Wright, Billy Wright, and Ferrell Wright. The funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 8, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Hilda Reid Jackson

Mrs. Hilda Reid Jackson, age 68, of Manchester, passed away, Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at her home. Born September 11, 1948 in Hogansville, Mrs. Jackson was the daughter of the late Hill and Pauline Caudle Reid. She was a resident of Manchester since 1973, was a member of Saint James United Methodist Church in Manchester, and loved doing crafts. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Charles Jackson of Manchester; daughter and son in-law, Tonya and Chris Wheelus of Hogansville; sons and daughter in-law, Chuck Jackson of Manchester and Kevin and Amanda Jackson of Shiloh; sisters and brother in-law, Polly Moon of Hogansville and Lynn and Ricky Yarrows of Grantville; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John Henry Reid and Robert Terry Reid. The funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 7, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Christina Lea Roberts

Ms. Christina Lea Roberts, age 31, of LaGrange, passed away, Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Southern Regional Medical Center. A native of Decatur, Christina lived in the Atlanta area most of her life and was employed as a waitress. She enjoyed life and loved being with her friends and family. Survivors include her mother, Ginger Mann of LaGrange; father and step-mother, Michael and Vickie Roberts of McDonough; brother, Jonathan York of Newnan; step-sisters, Kim Ford of McDonough and Karen Price of Mounton, Al., Loran Roberts of Luthersville; and her aunt, Catherine Thomas of Hogansville. The memorial service was conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 8, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Reverend Jim Weathers officiated. Steve Kennedy

Mr. Steve Kennedy, age 62, of Luthersville, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at Warm Springs Medical Center. Mr. Kennedy was born August 19, 1954, in Union City, Indiana, and had lived in Meriwether County for a number of years. Prior to becoming disabled in an accident, he had been employed as a truck driver for ABC Compounds. Survivors include his daughter, Bridgette Kennedy of Fayetteville; his father and step-mother, Lilous and Marjorie Kennedy of Luthersville; sisters and brothers, Eldon Kennedy and his wife Debbie of Rex, Cynthia Kennedy of Stockbridge, James Kennedy and his wife Tammy of Wesley Chapel, FL, and Connie Cox of Jackson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Marie Irwin Kennedy, and his sister, Kendra Callahan. The funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, in the Chapel of Claude A. Deborah LaFaye Civers

Ms. Deborah LaFaye Civers was born to Rosie Civers and the late, Robert Alexander on October 7, 1956 in LaGrange, Georgia. Deborah joined Zion Hill Baptist Church at an early age. She was presently assistant secretary of the Trustee Board and of the Church. She graduated from Troup High School, Class of 1974, in LaGrange, Georgia. She attended Morris Brown College and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. While at Morris Brown, Deborah established many friendships that have grown into lifelong relationships. For 19 years, she was employed by Coca-Cola in West Point, Georgia. Deborah was the mother of three children: Maurice Civers of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, LeRosa Darden and Rachelle Darden, both of LaGrange, Georgia. She had one grandchild, Arlo Holloway. Deborah passed away on October 6, 2016. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Rosa Civers, and Nancy Ferrell, and several aunts and uncles. In addition to her children, and grandchild; she leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Rosie Y. Civers; aunts Mary A. Reese, Martha A. Strong, and Shirley Civers; step mother Essie P. Alexander; step-sister Sherry Purchase; step-brothers Randy Walker and Melvin Walker; nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and extended family that she loved dearly. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Troup. Rev. Greg Civers and Rev. Craig Ogletree officiated. Burial followed at the Church Cemetery.

Morrill Turner Hutchinson

Morrill Turner Hutchinson, age 95, of LaGrange, Ga passed away October 8, 2016. She was born in McDonough, Ga., March 5, 1921. Morrill is predeceased by her husband, William Lane Hutchinson to whom she was married for 62 years. She is survived by her three sons, Dr. William Lane Hutchinson, Jr. (Beverly), Dr. Charles Lambdin Hutchinson (Shelly), Thomas Morrill Hutchinson, CPA (Debbie) and grandchildren, Lauren Hutchinson Bowen (Chap), Spencer Turner Hutchinson (Brittany), Anna Hutchinson Sundarababu (Suresh), Scott Lambdin Hutchinson (Alison), Andrew Lane Hutchinson (Kati), Eric Turner Hutchinson and Michael Haywood Hutchinson (Morgan). Her life was also blessed with nine great grandchildren. Mrs. Hutchinson was educated at Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University and received an advanced degree from the Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, Pa. After graduating with honors, she worked as a designer at Callaway Mills and a lead designer in New York City. Returning to LaGrange after marriage, Morrill continued her love for art as she became a founding member and board chairwoman of the Chattahoochee Valley Art Museum (LaGrange Art Museum). The Museum grew from its initial single painting to the present 550 pieces in its permanent collection. Morrill’s dream of protecting and storing this collection became a reality with the Collection Conservation Center named in her honor. Her greatest passion however was her mission to make art an essential part of the LaGrange community and its children. To that end Mrs. Hutchinson was the architect of the Creative Youth Art League, a 5 county wide outreach program for young artists. This program hosts an annual juried art show and scholarship competition at the Museum. The family had a private graveside burial followed by a Memorial Service at First Presbyterian Church,Monday, October 10, 2016 at 2:00 p,m. In lieu of flowers, Morrill’s life will be honored by donations given to First Presbyterian Church, LaGrange Art Museum or the Morrill T. & William L. Hutchinson Art Scholarship at LaGrange College.
